| 5. Method of Painting |
| |Brush and ink| a term of Chinese painting, or general name of techniques of Chinese painting. In the light of technique, "brush"means writing or painting ways, such as hook. outlining. wrinkle, rubbing, dot and more. "ink" means contrasting, rendering, washing and more. In theory, it's stressed that brush comes first, ink second. But brush and ink shall be interactive to render perfect concept so that artistic effect of united appearance and spirit is achieved eventually. |
| |Presentation of ideas| various ways of how a writer to arrange the overall work. in the light of painting and calligraphy. it refers to outlines composing a drawing, such as way of writing or painting force, color richness, imaginary-real components and more. |

|Two delineation| a type of Chinese painting technique by outlining objects Nith ink, also known as "outlining". It was named so since two strokes were drawn inward to outline an object. it's usually used in traditional elaborate style painting, previously in tracing calligraphy. whereby fine line was drawn from both sides of each stroke. |

|Line drawing| a kind of technique in Chinese painting. Painters use ink to draw line witout applying color. |
| |Elaborate style| a type of technique of Chinese painting, elaborate drawing and detailed description. Imperial style paintings of Song Dynasty, portrait drawings by Qiu Ying of Ming Dynasty, flower and animal paintings by Shen Quan of Qing Dynasty are good examples of elaborate style. |
| |Free sketch (impressionistic style)| emphasis on spirit of objects with brief strokes to depict painterls interest. Strokes are simple, but concept is fully rendered. Liang Kai of Song Dynasty, Xu Wei of Ming Dynasty, Zhu Da of Qing Dynasty and Li Kuchan of temporary times were good at free sketch. |
| |Wrinkie| a kind of technique of Chinese painting. it's used to display texture of mountain rocks and barks. For mountain rocks. there are pima (or mapi) wrinkie, raindrop (sesame) wrinkie. rolling cloud wrinkle and more. For example, Dong Yuan used pima wrinkie while Fan Kuan of Song Dynasty preferred raindrop wrinkle. Along with change of the times. various wrinkie skills are developed on the basis of traditionai experience. |
| |Non-bone (meigu)| a type of technique of Chinese painting. By this painting, it's no need to use brush to draw contour. but use color to show objects. It'S believed this technique originated in Southern Tang Dynasty. Yang Sheng of Tang Dynasty was good at this technique. He used blue, green, red, dark brown and white colors to make landscape paintings of hills, trees and rocks. Some painters in Ming Dynasty such as Dong Qichang and Lan Ying followed his example. |

| | Cheng Xin Tang paper| a kind of motto paper used for handwriting and painting, produced in Huizhou in Southern Tang Dynasty. This paper is smooth, tough, fine and even. The largest size is 50 Chi. It's named so because Emperor Li Yu ordered to build Cheng Xin Tang to store this paper. |
| |Antique book paper| a kind of paper used for handwriting and painting. Changle of Fujian Province and Taihe of Jiangxi Province have been famous for this paper. It's made from bamboo material. The paper feels delicate. a little bit yolk yellow. Since paper surface is smooth, it's easy to write on it. |
| |Gold-dusted paper| a kind of paper used for handwriting and painting. It's named so because the paper is dusted with gold scraps. Typically, such paper is red or green. Since Tang Dynasty. this manufacturing process has been used. |
